2018 calendar cover

Over the centuries, the role of the family dog in our society has changed a great deal.  Dogs are no longer just the house “protector”.  They are now a valued, loved and often pampered member of the family.  Birthdays are celebrated with parties and presents.  Playdates are arranged with other dog friends and special doggy day care centers provide entertainment while owners work.

Unfortunately, animal cruelty and ignorance still exist, and shelters around the world remain overcrowded with discarded, abused, and neglected dogs.  Today, there are even more animal rescues instead of less.  However, their structure and processes are rapidly changing to better accommodate a changing society.

New organizational structures and innovative adoption processes are only possible because of one constant, and that is the dedication of animal rescue volunteers.  No matter if it is a small local group or a large multi-state organization, animal rescue volunteers generously give of their time and energy to finding homes for the dogs they save.  They know they are often the last hope for the “unadoptable” dogs who have severe illnesses/injuries or lack basic training and social skills.  It is because of the love, patience and perseverance of these rescue angels, that so many dogs get that second chance at life.

Since its inception in 2000, members and volunteers of Arizona Golden Retriever Connection (AZGRC) have worked tirelessly to rescue over 1,500 Golden, and “almost” Golden, Retrievers, finding them loving forever homes.

AZGRC contributes its success to the enduring belief that at its core, rescue has been, and always will be, “All About the Dogs”.  The talented, dedicated volunteer photographers and graphic artists of AZGRC have lovingly produced a calendar that is a beautiful celebration of that belief.

All the Goldens featured in this calendar were rescued at some point in their lives.  Their rescue stories are a reminder that Golden Retrievers, more than any other breed, offer the purest, most selfless kind of love, and forgive the worst kind of neglect and cruelty.

No matter how much our world has changed through the centuries, the Golden Retriever has remained steadfast in their enduring trust and devotion to their humans.   Be the first to own this beautiful calendar and fall even more in love with this amazing breed of dog.

Acclaimed author Dean Koontz best described the Golden Retriever when he said, Golden Retrievers are not bred to be guard dogs, and considering the size of their hearts and their irrepressible joy in life, they are less likely to bite than to bark, less likely to bark than to lick a hand in greeting. In spite of their size, they think they are lap dogs, and in spite of being dogs, they think they are also human, and nearly every human they meet is judged to have the potential to be a boon companion who might, at many moment, cry, "Let's go!" and lead them on a great adventure.”

In addition, you and your calendar gift recipients will be pleased to know that proceeds from the sale of this calendar will benefit THE GOLDEN RETRIEVER LIFETIME STUDY at the MORRIS ANIMAL FOUNDATION.

Morris Animal Foundation’s Golden Retriever Lifetime Study is the first project to come from the Canine Lifetime Health Project.  It is the largest and most comprehensive observational study ever attempted in veterinary medicine in the United States. Researchers are working to identify the factors associated with development of cancer and other major diseases in dogs.  Identifying and understanding these risks is the first step toward better prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease.

Every dog, every owner, and every veterinarian makes a difference in this ground-breaking study by providing information to Morris Animal Foundation. Researchers will use information from the enrolled 3,000+ dogs to investigate how genetics, nutrition, environment, and lifestyle impact major health outcomes, especially cancer.

AZGRC is very pleased and proud to have two of their rescued Goldens participating in this lifetime study!
